Cast Stone Sculptures FAQ

What is cast stone?

Our products are first hand-carved in clay or wood and then made from cast stone and hand finished with antique finish to give them ancient appearance. Cast stone is a type of gypsum cement whose properties are much different from Plaster of Paris which is what most sculpture shops use. Unlike plaster, which is soft, light and weak, cast stone is hard, heavy and strong. Cast stone feels like, and is heavy like a real stone would be, which can be experienced as soon you try to lift it.

What kind of color do you apply to the finished product?

The finish on our cast stone sculptures is generally Antique Stone finish. We do not use paint color as brushing technique on our products, but are aging them with a rusting technique. Naturally, because each piece is hand finished, there will be slight variations in the resulting antique finish. Thus no two products are identical and each piece we produce is unique in itself.

Is cast stone OK for outside use?

Cast stone items are for inside use only; they are not safe for outside use, or water exposure.  If you need your item displayed outside please make sure to send us an email requesting it to be made of concrete.  There is extra charge to make an item in concrete and we will be able to let you know how much it would be when you make a request.  Also please note that the concrete finish color is lighter than the cast stone color finish as pictured.

Can I order a unique finish?

All our products are hand-finished in Antique Stone finish; however, if you prefer other finish, let us know. Custom finishes, such as gold, silver, bronze, antique bronze, antique silver, and antique gold, are available on many of our products. Please email or telephone your requirements and we will be happy to give you an answer.

Our sculptures are EXACT REPRODUCTIONS IN CAST MARBLE IN THE SAME SIZE AND DIMENSIONS as the great museum original masterpieces now housed by several prominent world museums. All are casts faith, reproduced from molds created on the original classical works now in the museum. Every mold is made by a 1 on 1 direct contact with the original object and therefore it guarantees the highest possible authenticity of the reproduction (see some examples of our finished products). These annexed galleries of cast molds make our collection exclusive and unique in the world, as no permission will ever be granted by the competent authorities to subject historical masterpieces to this process of reproduction again. These are collector items that can not be found anywhere else in the world. Cast marble is extremely heavy and strong, having a real ancient feel. An ancient patina finishing gives it an additional historical value. These marble sculptures can be displayed both inside and out, they are weatherproofed.

Greek Vases Museum Reproductions FAQ

How are your vases made?

Our vases are NOT fastly made kitsch replicas, nor are they cheaply made of substitute materials such as resin. We stick to the materials and methods used by ancient Greeks and use only top quality ceramics and paints. Every piece is a stunning work of art, an amazing replica of an actual historic vessel from a museum or other collection created between 2,800-2,000 years ago. Every piece is individually hand thrown terracotta, hand-shaped, and hand-painted in exquisite detail in Greece and signed by a professional master reproduction artist which masters the art of the ancient Greek pottery. The whole process is made by hand (like in ancient times) using only top quality row materials. We respectfully preserve the sensitivity and the dignity of ancient pieces while guaranteeing the quality and the curacy of all the pieces we reproduce. This is why our ceramics are preferred selection of the "Hellenic Handcrafted Creations" Collection. We offer the following types of ancient Greek vases and plates: Red Figure Vases, Black Figure Vases, White Ground Vases, Geometric Vases, Minoan Cretan Vases, Mycenaean Cycladic and Corinthian Vases. Bronze Fountains and Sculptures FAQ

Bronze (Lost Wax) and Bronze (Cold Cast) difference?

Our bronze sculptures are made either in Cold Cast Bronze or Lost Wax Bronze (hot cast bronze). Cold Cast Bronze and Lost Wax Bronze and two different methods of creating bronze objects.

1) Lost Wax or Hot-Cast Bronze is actual 100% pure Bronze - essentially copper and tin. The making of a Lost Wax Bronze is a complex and time consuming process, and specific technical expertise is needed to accomplish the task of making a bronze. The most known and used process for making sculpture is called the "Lost Wax" Process, and involves pouring of molten bronze. Our larger sculptures are made of Lost Wax Bronze.
2) Cold-Cast Bronze, also referred to as "bonded bronze," is a product made from resin mixed/blended with pure bronze powder to give it the appearance of the true bronze. It looks just as a lost was bronze object does - both are bronzes. Some of our smaller sculptures are made of cold cast bronze.
The cost for making a lost wax bronze statue is much greater than that of a cold-cast bronze statue. A sculpture made of lost wax bronze would be several times more expensive then one made in cold cast bronze. Lost Wax bronze is also heavier then cold cast bronze. Yet in either of the above materials, the casts (the final product made out of the mold) are made using the same rubber mold; which is taken from the original sculpture. Thus, the final result is exactly the same bronze sculpture, only made in a different bronze material. With the cold cast we still achieve the same bronze effect at much lower cost and thus is more affordable.

Fiberstone Sculptures FAQ

What is Fiberstone / Fiberglass?
Our products are made from strong high resistant Fiberstone/ Fiberglass and coated with stain finish. Fiberstone is a mixture of sand and stones cast into the surface using terrazzo-like techniques. The surface is then sandblasted and chemically treated, and then hand painted with an antique acid stain to give the appearance of aged stone. Since it is reinforced with a fiberglass backing, it remains less fragile and lighter alternative to concrete and cast stone. By mastering the art of casting our products in fiberglass we manage to retain all the detail or the original with the added benefits of less weight, greater strength, and product suitability for both indoor and outdoor use. The advantages of fiberstone and fiberglass when compared to concrete, cast stone, and cement are that they are about half the weight, are far less fragile, and much more resistant. These sculptures and architectural elements can be displayed both indoor and outdoor in your garden year round.

What kind of coloring finish do you apply to the fiberstone product?
We offer a wide variety of finishes for our Fiberstone items. Each of the products in this gallery is pictured here in one finish; however, each is also available in any other finishes. Please review our available finishes and specify at checkout (or email us after placing your order) your choice between pictured finish and other optional finishes. Please review our listings to get a get a better idea of how these finishes look like.

We do not use paint color as brushing technique on our products, but are aging them with a rusting technique. Naturally, because each piece is hand finished, there will be slight variations in the resulting antique finish. Thus no two products are identical and each piece we produce is unique in itself.

Byzantine Icons FAQ

How are your Byzantine Icons created?

For creation of our icons we use and apply traditional Byzantine methods and materials which have been tested over many centuries. The base of the icon is a traditional high quality durable wood covered with a layer of canvas and several layers of gesso. After completing the painting on the panel with professionally created egg tempera paint, several layers of bole (burnishing clay) are applied to the background to prepare them for the receiving of 24K gold leaf, and after gilding, gold is burnished using agate burnisher.
As a final finish for our icons we use linseed oil based varnish. Finally a degree of aging can be applied to the icon, which depends of your personal choice. You can view several aging results in our list of Completed Icons and chose the style your like. Of course, you may also elect your icon not to be aged. Let us know what your preference is when placing the order. While some other works of art require some special conditions for their preservation (most typically protection from light), paintings in egg tempera on wood, finished with linseed oil based varnish are best preserved under the same, moderate conditions of light, humidity, temperature and cleanliness of air that are optimal for human habitation. This is why our Byzantine Icons are timeless investment set to be enjoyed by many generations of your family. For a detailed explanation of the creation process see below.

What is your Return Policy?

We will not be responsible for damaged merchandise not in its original packaging.

Mosaics FAQ

How are your Mosaics created?
All our mosaics are handmade in the same techniques utilized by the ancient mosaicists more the 2000 years ago, with stunning detail and full attention to scale and proportion (see the photo gallery of our production of the Alexander Mosaic). Each mosaic is
laid down on a mesh backing and can be installed easily on a wall or floor, both indoors and outdoors. You can decorate any wall with a mosaic image, hallways, floor centers of dining and living rooms, above the fireplace, in an archway, on table tops, pools, and baths due to mosaic's ability to withstand water and humidity, unlike other forms of art. And because they are made from natural marbles, the colors won't alter over time.

How long does it take for delivery?
Depending on the size of the mosaic it can take from few months to two years to complete the largest and most complex reproduction of an ancient mosaic.
